Chewin' the Fat is a publication from The Complete Bear designed for the bear community. It is published on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month.

Chewin' the Fat will offer up the best of the bear lifestyle - casual, cool, or woofy. Whatever it takes to complete the bear.

For the bear, his cub and their den . . .

 Mea Culpa

Frameline Film Festival June is a crazy time in San Francisco. We have Pride, then there's the Frameline Film Festival, we had the first ever Gay Marriage Expo and of course the marriages (I've been to 3).

So, please forgive me, there is so much I wanted to write about - but I'll make it up to you dear Bears - I promise.

There is still that torrid little event in the Kink.com dungeons and my afternoon with the notorious Frank Strona.

What's a bear to do? WOOF!!

2008 Gay Pride Calendar

 Happy Pride
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

Gay Pride Flag I wanted to share with you a little of Heather Small's "Proud."

Everyday, we face challenges. And, everyday we have a choice - we can succumb to our fears and the labels that others try to place on us, or we can go boldly forward. There are plenty of people who are more than happy to tell us we can't. It is up to you to decide you can!!

So I ask you, "What have you done today to make you feel proud?"

Be proud of every step you take to decide your destiny. And embrace everyday as a chance to make yourself proud.

Step out of the ordinary

As I go on my way
 by Buzzed Beef

Buzzed Beef We'd like to sincerely thank Buzzed Beef for his contributions over the last year. We wish him the absolute best as he journeys on down the road

The title is borrowed, word for word, from the title of a poem by Strickland Gillilan, first published in 1917. It is with a heavy heart that I chose this title as today's blog will be my last on this site for a long time, perhaps indefinitely. Neither time nor space allows me to chronicle all the details of my decision to end my writings.

Suffice it to say, I am enduring some personal and financial problems that have interfered with both my physical and mental motivations. As such, I no longer believe myself a credible source to write a blog regarding bear fitness.

During this last year I have spent sharing with you, I have chronicled personal successes and failures. I've tried to be as candid as possible to reach you at a very personal level. I've tried to infect my writing with my own personal sense of humor and perspective. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed what I've had to "say" as I have thoroughly enjoyed "saying" it. I hope that what I've shared has inspired you and let you know that you are not alone in your quests for fitness; your quest to be the best bear you can be.

I could soliloquize indefinitely about my feelings, but it is unnecessary as the poem from which I borrowed my title says it more beautifully and eloquently and with more brevity than I ever could:

As I Go on My Way

My life shall touch a dozen lives, Before this life is done; Leave countless marks for goodwill, Ere the evening sun; So this the wish I always wish, The prayer I always pray: Let my life help other lives It touches by the way. --Strickland Gillilan (1917)

OMG - Lazy Bear is when?

Lazy Bear Weekend I ran into Jack & Cody last weekend. Jack was quick to note Lazy Bear Weekend was in 39 days (OK, that was last Sunday - so you do the math). So bears, it's time.

Since 1995, the Lazy Bear Fund has been committed to helping and supporting a diversity of outreach and educational programs, which benefit our brothers and sisters in the LGBT community.

The Bear Tag is the number one fundraising tool that allows LBW to raise much needed cash for Northern California (and beyond) outreach programs through the nonprofit Lazy Bear Fund (501c3).
