Chris TurnerLast week, I had the chance to grab lunch with Chris Turner, founder of DaddyHunt.
TheCompleteBear: So, we hear there are some new things over at DaddyHunt? Do tell . . . Chris: Yes, there are... I've been want to launch a Blog on DaddyHunt for a long time and we've finally gotten it off the ground. I love the idea of making the community more multi-dimensional so that people engage with each other on all sorts of topics... not just for dating. It's exciting getting it off the ground.
TheCompleteBear: What kind of topics can we expect?
Chris: Well, we're trying to keep the focus on the Daddy and Bear community (as well as admirers) and after that our articles will cover the whole gamut. Articles on Health, Politics, Dating, Sex, Culture, and Events... you name it. We're just trying to cover all things Daddy as it were.
TheCompleteBear: and that's a good thing! Speaking of Daddies, we understand you were nominated in three categories for the 2008 Best of the Bears. Well, not you personally LOL
Chris: LOL... We keep ourselves busy, so it's great that somebody is noticing. Over here we're working on DaddyHunt (our personals site) the new DH Blog, as well and PantheonMen and our bear videos. It's certainly a labor of love.
TheCompleteBear: Who’s writing for the blog?
Chris: We have eight writers who are working on it - M. Christian is writing regular pieces about what's going on in the news and politics, William Schindler is writing about fitness, We also have Daddy Jay writing pieces from a Daddies perspective.Kirk Read is a great younger writer who's always been into Daddies. He's writing an advice column geared towards Daddies. Frank Strona is writing pieces on health and dating. Walter Smith, my business partner, is writing all sorts of pieces along with me.
TheCompleteBear: Frank is one of our favorite Bears! So, can one really find true love on DaddyHunt?
Chris: Yes... I actually met my partner Armistead Maupin on the site and I keep hearing from other men that are meeting their husbands on there. I think there are a lot of guys on the site just looking to hook up, but just as many looking for love. We've tried to create a very friendly community and I think it's worked.
TheCompleteBear: Cool, Mr Right or Mr Right now . . .
Chris: Yeah... that's the way I think it should be. We certainly love sex, but who doesn't want to meet Mr Right?
TheCompleteBear: Any tips on meeting a Daddy? Chris: I think it's always best just to be honest about who you are and what you're into. It's also great to really talk about who you are in your profile. I think more people will be attracted to you if you're just real and honest.
TheCompleteBear: What one thing would you recommend someone not do on their personals?
Chris: I'm always surprised when I hear of guys even on our site who are lying about their age... when it's supposed to be a place that's not ageist. If someone is going to really like you, hopefully he'll like you for who you are. A lot of guys want someone who is older and will not look at your profile if you say you’re too young. So again, I think honesty is the best way to go if you want to meet guys and certainly if you want a second date or trick.
TheCompleteBear: At The Complete Bear, we are always asked to define "bear" - do people ask you to define "Daddy"?
Chris: Yes... all the time. A lot of guys say they don't want to be a daddy because they think it's about role play. For me a "daddy" is just an affectionate term for an older guy. My kind of daddy tends to be over 45, stocky and furry with some facial hair... I guess that's really a just daddy bear... I don't think "daddy" necessarily has anything to do with role play, but I know it is for some guys. A lot of us are just interested in truly connecting with an older man, but aren't looking for someone to take charge of our lives or tell us what to do.
TheCompleteBear: Hmm, Daddy Bear that works. Take charge? OK, maybe sometimes, but I'm not wearing that outfit, again . . .
Chris: A little take charge in the bedroom can be a lot of fun! Don't get me wrong.
TheCompleteBear: Exactly, OK, so I'm going to get deep. Do you think the gay community is becoming more accepting of different types such as bears and daddies?
Chris: I really do. I think the internet has had an enormous impact on what we consider the norm. It's wonderful that we have so many niche communities online. I think people often just need permission to be who they are, so if they can find a whole community of people who are similar to them, it's a wonderful thing. I remember in the 80's feeling like you had to be 25 and smooth to be accepted by the gay community. I don't think it's that way at all anymore.
TheCompleteBear: So, what does one get daddy for Christmas?
Chris: That's a good question. I guess I have to start shopping for my daddy bear. I should be asking you this question.
TheCompleteBear: ps - the answer to the Christmas question was anything from the Complete Bear LOL
Chris: OK... let me restate my answer to that one -- anything from the Complete Bear!
TheCompleteBear: much better LOL What can e expect from DaddyHunt in the new year? Chris: We are going to be launching some new features on DaddyHunt that will make it even more community oriented including a forum and event pages. We'll also be adding some other great little features like being able to keep personal notes on profiles of your friends and tricks. It will be great for keeping track of phone numbers and things like that.
